The European Union and the US should carry out a “tough” policy against Russia, Jarosław Kaczyński, leader of the opposition Law and Justice (PiS) party, wrote in a letter to dozens of ambassadors and hundreds of MEPs from different countries.
Mr Kaczyński said in the letter that the US and the EU should resist Russia's aspirations to extend its zone of influence, according to daily Gazeta Wyborcza, which gained access to the note.
“Currently we are witnessing attempts to diminish the role of our region in Europe,” Wyborcza quoted Kaczyński as saying. “They [Russia] may seem attractive business partners, but they do not respect the values and standards that prevail in the Euro-Atlantic political sphere,” the PiS leader added.
Mr Kaczyński reminded recipients of the letter that, in his opinion, Poland is one of America's closest allies in Europe.
