Latvia will force Europe to recognize communism' crimes

Although the European Commission is very reluctant to equate crimes of the Nazi regime and those of communism, it will have to react to a recent conference in European Parliament on crimes of totalitarian regimes, Latvijas avize daily cites European deputy Inese Vaidere to argue.

The conference participants have adopted some common recommendations, which are, according to Vaidere, a significant step forward. Now Europe has developed a common attitude towards the crimes of totalitarianism, demanding their condemnation, exposure, and investigation. The document is now being examined by commissions, hence its opponents should not be able to postpone a decision on it, the European deputy hopes.
